Holidaymakers warned to cover the contents of their suitcasesBrits going skiing or planning a winter holiday abroad should take care to insure the contents of their luggage, according to Saga.

The insurer recently published research that found that in the wintertime, the average contents of a suitcase are £238 more expensive than luggage packed for a summer holiday.

It also found that men are more likely to have kept receipts for expensive items they may have taken on holiday, which could come in handy if a claim has to be made for any losses.

Over-50s were found to be the most security-conscious travellers, with 16 per cent of this age group making a note of the serial number of valuable items in their bags.

Meanwhile the Telegraph has reported that according to the Association of British Travel Agents, January is a "busy month" for people booking holidays abroad.

Some 200,000 people per day are taking advantage of wintertime deals to book holidays to South Africa and other destinations.Meet the editors...
