Fans urged to book World Cup tickets and flights to South Africa earlyPeople hoping to go on holidays to South Africa next year in order to catch the Fifa World Cup tournament have been advised to plan their travel arrangements and book their tickets early.

Speaking at a press conference in Johannesburg, Danny Jordaan, chief executive of the South African organising committee, said that people who leave things to the last minute run the risk of missing out.

"There's nothing wrong with buying tickets six months ahead of an event," he commented.

The South African government has already pledged 1.4 billion rand (£100 million) towards the construction of pitches and to make the event, which begins on June 11th 2010, a success.

It is estimated that 450,000 people will travel to South Africa for the World Cup.

Anyone wanting to do the same could book flights to Cape Town or Johannesburg with Virgin Atlantic - but hurry, as there are only 497 days left.
