Currency strength important to BritonsSummary: Holidays to Dubai are rising in popularity, new research has noted.

More British people are taking into account the strength of a country's currency when choosing holiday destinations, it has been found.

According to a poll by M&S Money, 36 per cent of British people said this is something they take into account in a bid to save money.

Consequently, long haul destinations and those with their own currencies are increasing in popularity, the firm found.

There was a 12 per cent increase in the dirham as more people chose holidays to Dubai in the first quarter of 2009, while South Africa and Thailand were also found to be popular.

Travel money manager James Yerkess said the pound's decline in value of late has encouraged people to consider places where they get more for their money.

"Brits still want to enjoy a holiday, but they are being more selective about where they go," he concluded.

A recent study carried out by VisitBritain found that many people look forward to holidays as a valuable way of busting the stress associated with work and everyday life.Meet the editors...
