Travel insurance is vital "even for short trips"Travel insurance should be taken at face value and considered as a "necessity not a luxury", according to one industry spokesperson.

"Even for short trips, the number one fear is getting ill or injured overseas and travel insurance provides that protection which is extremely cheap for the cover it provides," explained Malcolm Tarling, spokesperson for the Association of British Insurers.

Whether people are taking a two-day holiday in Dubai or a three-week holiday in South Africa, it is important that people protect themselves from any problems that might occur.

Mr Tarling went on to say that it was important for travellers to make an informed decision and to ensure they receive transparent information about what their options are and what their policy covers.

Once travel insurance is in place and flights to South Africa have been booked, holidaymakers looking for an adrenaline-filled trip may wish to take advantage of the sardine run, which occurs between May and late July.

Many companies will offer excursions to dive among the spectacle and watch the various predators feast on the shoals of fish. Meet the editors...
