Travellers reminded to make sure they are fully insuredTravellers who have booked a flight to South Africa or other destinations outside of the European Union (EU) will not be covered by their European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).

Holidaymakers are reminded of this fact after research carried out by Saga Travel Insurance revealed eight per cent of Brits were relying solely on their card to cover them should they encounter any problems while travelling.

The company reminded people that the EHIC will not cover them outside of the EU and does not protect them against events such as repatriation, cancellation and theft or loss of baggage or possessions.

Andrew Goodsell, executive chairman of the Saga Group, explained: "When travelling within Europe and even within the UK, holidaymakers should ensure they have adequate travel insurance in place before departing, to provide sound cover and peace of mind."

Those who have sorted their insurance for a holiday in South Africa may wish to book a flight to Johannesburg during August for the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival.

Performances and workshops will take place from the 27th to the 29th in what is the biggest annual festival of its kind in the city, according to WhatsOnWhen.Meet the editors...
