Cape Town the "perfect introduction" to South AfricaPeople planning holidays to South Africa may be interested to know that Emma Crosby has called Cape Town the "perfect introduction" to the country.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Mail, the GMTV presenter described the first time she visited the city.

"You look down on these extraordinary white beaches and then, as you exit the plane, you see Table Mountain: breathtaking," she said.

Ms Crosby recommends making the journey out to Robben Island - where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated - and claims that a trip up Table Mountain is a "must" for all visitors.

Many of her favourite attractions lie just outside the city, including Kirstenbosch – the country's world renowned national botanical garden, which plays host to more than 22,000 indigenous plants.

South Africa is due to host the football World Cup in 2010, an event which she hopes will "open the world's eyes to the country's holiday potential".

Cape Town is one of nine cities that will host matches throughout the tournament next summer. One of the semi-finals will be played at the city's Green Point Stadium, with Johannesburg holding the final.
