Cape Town 'is South Africa's most celebrated city'

As England fans prepare to head to South Africa for next summer's World Cup, one travel writer has described Cape Town in favourable terms.

With England fans eagerly awaiting the World Cup in 2010, they may want some information about activities in South Africa that can occupy them in between matches.

Tom Hall, travel editor for Lonely Planet, has offered his top tips on places to see during holidays to South Africa.

He is particularly enamoured with Cape Town, where England will play one of their group-stage matches.

"Cape Town is the most celebrated city and you can see why. Table Mountain is a stand-out attraction and it has a very attractive coastline," he said.

Mr Hall added that the city boasts some "nice restaurants" and good places to stay.

However, England's match fixtures in the group stages of the competition will see travelling fans move between three South African cities - Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Rustenburg.

The draw, which took place on December 4th, put England in a group with the USA, Algeria and Slovenia.
