Anyone booking flights to South Africa should think about staying at one of the country's wineries, one travel journalist has advised.

Include a winery stay on holidays to South Africa

Rather than worrying about driving to - and from - one of South Africa's wineries for a tasting day, people visiting the country should think about staying overnight.

Lisa van Aswegen, Time Out Cape Town editor and a travel journalist with the Guardian, explained that vineyards are increasingly offering tourists somewhere to bed down for the night to save them a long journey back to a hotel.

She highlighted a few in the Franschhoek region, including Klein Genot - which is described as a "boutique abode" - and Bo La Motte Guest Cottages, which earned the label "a tranquil hideaway".

Ms van Aswegen pointed out that it will make the holiday more relaxing for anyone who has booked flights to South Africa.

One of the more famous regions, Stellenbosch, also offers places to stay, with the Lanzerac Hotel and Spa receiving a mention.

Travellers can even choose to follow the Stellenbosch Wine Routes, which represent more than 200 grape and wine producers in the region and offer visitors tasting sessions, cellar tours and the chance to buy some of the popular beverage.
