'There's more to South Africa than football'

One travel writer has commented that there will be plenty to do on holidays to South Africa this summer other than watch the World Cup.

Many people will have booked flights to South Africa this summer in order to take in some of the footballing action.

But one travel journalist has pointed out that the country offers plenty of things to those who are not interested in the World Cup or to anyone who needs to make arrangements during one of their team's rest days.

Writing for City AM, Jon Couch advised taking a safari, describing it as a must-do activity.

In particular, he recommended the Pilanesberg Game Reserve, which has "a spectacular landscape of rocky valleys and open grassland surrounding the large central lake".

Anyone feeling particularly adventurous may also want to take a balloon safari, soaring above the Magalies River Valley just outside Johannesburg.

Mr Couch also suggested visiting Sun City, which could be a good choice for England fans as it is just 30 minutes drive from Rustenburg, where the side will play their opening World Cup match on June 12th against the USA.

Sun City boasts South Africa's most advanced water park as well as two 18-hole golf courses and plenty of other attractions and entertainment to keep tourists occupied for a few days.
