Travellers have been advised by one journalist to book their flights to South Africa in the months following the World Cup.

Tourists who want to book flights to Cape Town should hold off until the football competition is over, one travel writer has claimed.

Writing for the Daily Telegraph, Francisca Kellett explained that by heading to South Africa after the hubbub of the World Cup, travellers will be able to take advantage of all the new investment without the crowds.

She also noted that South Africa is good value for money, adding that prices are likely to fall once the World Cup has finished on July 11th.

People who are staying in Cape Town should make sure that they spend a day at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Ms Kellett stated.

She also recommended travelling into the winelands and in particular visiting the village of Franschhoek.

Commenting on her whole trip, Ms Kellett said: "Here the commonplace is extraordinary, but then South Africa is an extraordinary country."

The first match in the World Cup will kick off on June 11th, when hosts South Africa play Mexico in Johannesburg.
