Tourists should seek out the lions on a trip to JohannesburgPeople who have booked flights to Johannesburg this summer may be looking for entertainment that does not involve football.

If this is the case, then one travel writer has made an interesting recommendation following a recent trip to the city.

Writing for the Daily Mail, Wendy Gomersall talked of an excursion to find some of Africa's most iconic animals - lions.

She visited the Horseback Africa wildlife reserve, which breeds lions to be released into the wild and now offers walks for travellers in the area.

Anyone who wants to get close to some of the big cats can do so in this safe environment, Ms Gomersall explained.

In addition to taking a walk around the grounds with some of the larger lions, tourists are also given the chance to meet some of the cubs at the centre.

The reserve also offers horse riding safaris and the chance to enjoy a game of polo in the picturesque grounds.
