Holidaymakers impressed with South Africa

New research shows many tourists' impressions of South Africa were boosted by the recent World Cup.

According to the Democratic Alliance, the estimated 383,000 people who travelled to the country for the football event left with positive perceptions.

The survey conducted by the alliance involved a number of face-to-face interviews with tourists visiting various regions including Western Cape, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Free State and Mpumalanga while the World Cup was taking place.

Overall, 23.5 per cent of World Cup visitors felt watching their team was the highlight of their holiday, 31.5 per cent of tourists surveyed rated the Kruger Park, safaris, whale watching, open spaces and game drives as their top memorable experiences.

There was also strong support for Cape Town and its attractions, with 25.4 per cent feeling very positive about the region.

Cape Town is South Africa's oldest city has as a number of tourist sights such as Robben Island and Kirstenbosch Gardens. Plus there are a number of direct flights to Cape Town from the UK, so it makes it an ideal destination for Brits.
