South Africas eco-tourism on the rise South Africa's popular Garden Route is experiencing an increase in tourists looking for sustainable and eco-friendly holiday experiences.

According to the travel advice website MyGardenRouteInfo, many local businesses along the popular Garden Route are starting to prioritise environmental issues to help lower the impact of tourism on the area.

Research from the International Ecotourism Society (TIES), shows that eco-tourism in the region has been increasing by 20 to 30 per cent over the past two decades and that there has been a general rise in nature-based tourism within South Africa.

One example of the recent eco-developments in the holiday business along the Garden Route is the work by the Phantom Forest Eco Reserve, which allows those taking flights to South Africa to stay in tree-top lodges and experience the wildlife of the Knysna forest.

The Garden Route is an area of South Africa coast that has developed into a key tourist attraction due to its stunning scenery.
