The occupancy rates in Cape Town's luxury hotels increased substantially last month.

New figures reported by Sake24 show that both the Cape Grace hotel and the One&Only hotels in the V&A Waterfront have seen an increase in occupancy rates of 45 per cent as signs of South Africa's recovery emerge.

Joop Demes, chief executive of Pam Golding Hospitality, explained that both hotels reported rates close to 90 per cent – with the Cape Grace having its highest rate since November 2002.

Other five-star hotels within the region also had strong occupancy levels including two new hotels to the region - Orange in Cape Town and Crystal Towers Hotel in Century City.

However, it is not just the luxury properties that are appealing to tourists taking flights to South Africa. Both Radisson Blu and Westin Grand show strong occupancy rates of around 80 per cent.

The Cape Grace has recently undergone refurbishment and is described as a boutique hotel that is close to South Africa's famous Table Mountain.
