South Africa to welcome more Brits this monthThere could be an increase in visitors taking flights to South Africa during January and February.

Independent Newspapers reports that more Brits and Americans could travel to the country in the next two months despite the stronger rand.

A number of airlines are already reporting high passenger numbers on flights to Johannesburg and Cape Town, with many Brits travelling via Heathrow opting for direct flights to Cape Town with SAA.

Arthur Gillis, the chief executive of Protea Hotels, added that the company has seen a rise in forward bookings and is expecting its coastal properties to be "very busy in February and March".

He added that December had also seen a rise in bookings, especially Umhlanga and Cape Town.

Protea is Africa's largest hotel group and has properties in eight countries including South Africa, Kenya, Zambia and Uganda.
