Cape campaign highlights joys of winter

Visitors to the Cape region of South Africa can enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities.

Brits catching flights to South Africa over the coming months shouldn't be put off heading into the countryside just because it's the traditional winter season, as a local tourist board has highlighted many outdoor attractions to seek out.

The Cape Town and Western Cape winter campaign esCape to the Cape aims to remind visitors that there is plenty to do in the region when the weather is cooler.

You can build a snowman in Ceres or get up close and personal with a cheetah in Oudtshoorn, such is the diversity of the Cape region.

Other recommended excursions include a game drive in the Bontebok National Park, an off-road motorbike trip down Gamkaskloof, and wild flower spotting on the Cape West Coast.

For this reason, Calvyn Gilfellan, chief executive officer of Cape Town Routes Unlimited, a local tourism organisation, has claimed that Cape Town and the surrounding regions are "year-round" destinations.
