Jazz and African Music Nights taking place in AugustAnyone taking cheap flights to South Africa this month could check out a cycle of performances entitled Jazz and African Music Nights in Pretoria.

The first gig is due to take place today (August 5th), with Mofolo-born singer Gloria Bosman headlining and supported by Roses, a group of young, female students from the Committed Artists for Cultural Advancement school.

On August 19th, Asanda Bam will be top of the bill, with the venue remarking: "Her fresh face gives an impression of an upstart, but Asanda has been around as a much-sought-after backing vocalist and session musician."

The warm-up act on the night will be Kwa-zulu Natal singer Sibongile.

In the final show in the series, seasoned performer Melanie Scholtz - who learned to play the piano when she was five years old - will be supported by Thope M.

Admission costs 80 rand (£7.10) in advance and 100 rand on the door at the South African State Theatre. To reach the venue, head to the city's CBD district and find Pretorius Street.
