Travel insurance 'as important as a suitcase'

Taking out travel insurance before heading away on holiday has been likened to remembering to pick up your suitcase.

Travel insurance as important as a suitcaseBefore setting off on flights to South Africa or other countries travellers need to take out a good travel insurance policy.

Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Brokers Association, has advised holidaymakers that getting cover in place should be as important to them as picking up their suitcase before leaving the house.

"You can buy different areas of cover, it has got key things like medication, cancellation, liability to others and personal injury cover for example," Mr Trudgill said.

He added that travel insurance is often very cheap when considered in comparison to the rest of the price of the holiday or what it would cost to cover damage or injury without the policy.

Some people taking flights to South Africa soon could be planning to get tickets to see Canadian singer Tori Amos as well, as she is poised to perform in the country.
