Emirates showcases low carbon flightEmirates has taken a group of delegates on flights to Durban using a low carbon flying method.

The carrier was tasked with taking the United Arab Emirates delegation to the 2011 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Durban and used the trip as a chance to showcase its new technique.

Through close navigation between the airline and the seven countries between Dubai and South Africa, the carrier was able to reduce emissions and save over five tonnes of CO2 when compared with making the same flight in a conventional style.

Patrick Dlamini, the chief executive officer of Air Traffic and Navigation Services South Africa, said the initiative "bring together closer cooperation between South Africa and the airlines that serve it, support the people of South Africa by protecting our incredible natural environment."

More Brits could be planning on taking flights to Durban and other areas in South Africa in time for Christmas as figures from ABTA - the travel association, show more people are heading abroad for Christmas.
