Cape Town opens new Science Centre

Cape Town has opened the doors to its new Science Centre to young visitors.

Travellers on flights to Cape Town with young children could have a new attraction to entertain them with as the Science Centre has opened its doors.

A former warehouse on Main Road has been transformed into an interactive learning centre, with the Cape Argus explaining it has relocated from its former home in Canal Walk.

The move was completed following the support of many local people and businesses.

Julie Cleverdon, director of the science centre, told the newspaper: "People are beginning to understand the vision we have for the science centre, which is a safe place for kids to come and learn and have fun with science."

Attractions at the site include giving children the chance to build their own house from foam bricks and experience what it is like inside a gyroscope.

The news comes as the city's tourism authority has stated it is trying to encourage more people to take flights to Cape Town, in particular from the Far East.
