New website makes gap year planning easyA new travel tool has been launched to help people about to head off on their gap years plan the perfect trip.

The website, Gogapyear.com, was set up by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in collaboration with Lonely Planet and aims to provide country-specific advice on what travellers can expect and how they need to prepare.

It includes information about working abroad, visas, health, insurance and adventure activities, as well as what to do in case of an emergency.

Alice Draper of the FCO, said: "The very nature of a gap year means that it is likely to be a prolonged trip, taking in a number of destinations. This can increase travellers' risk of encountering difficulties on their journey, so it is vital to prepare properly before setting off."

In news that may be relevant for people going on cheap holidays to Thailand, the website recommends travelling to Bangkok as a base for excursions to Khao Sok National Park and the Krabi Province, famous for its unspoilt beaches.
