Holidays seen as essentialA new study has revealed the importance that Britons place on their yearly holiday to the sun.

Private bank Cater Allen found that 43 per cent of people regarded a break as essential for their mental wellbeing, while 17 per cent said they live for their holidays.

"The two week summer break has become an essential respite for hard-working Britons. But … the higher price of fuel for flights means that this summer we may have to pay that little bit more for our much need rest and rehabilitation time," said Richard Dunn, managing director at Cater Allen.

Some 21 per cent of people said they start planning their next holiday as soon as they get back home.

However, it seems the encouragement to tighten our belts financially is paying off - only 15 per cent of respondents said they would put the cost of their holiday onto a credit card.

Anyone looking for a wallet-friendly holiday could consider booking flights to Thailand, where a variety of accommodation is available for as little as £2.50.Meet the editors...
