Nobody intending to travel abroad - including those on holidays to Thailand - should even consider going without travel insurance, one expert has urged.

John Boyles, account manager at Endsleigh Insurance, said that people should not believe that reciprocal health arrangements will cover all possible incidents and as such, should ensure they purchase a comprehensive policy.

"If you travel abroad without insurance than in my opinion you must be crazy. The costs can be enormous and nobody is exempt or immune from something untoward happening to them," he commented.

Recent American Express research showed that some 24 per cent of people plan to go abroad without insurance, leaving 14.5 million people at risk of exposure to huge medical bills should something untoward happen.

Meanwhile, proving that insurance policies should be as wide ranging as possible in order to cover spur-of-the-moment decisions, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office found that 17 per cent of 18 to 35-year-olds have opted to go jet-skiing at the last minute during a holiday.Meet the editors...
