Survey reveals dubious holiday souvenir choiceIt seems that Britons abroad, potentially including those on holidays to Thailand, may wish to rethink their choice of souvenir if recent research is anything to go by.

A poll by Tesco Travel Money Card has found that the top choice of holiday memento is the straw donkey, followed by novelty t-shirts and mugs.

Unsurprisingly, 40 per cent of travellers said they regretted buying such products once they got home, with nearly a quarter admitting to throwing them out.

However, 14 per cent said they donated them to charity shops instead, while three per cent made some money back by selling them over the internet - although who actually buys such items without the excuse of the sun affecting their judgement is not clear.

Yvonne Byrne from Tesco Personal Finance said: "Our survey shows that although people might be more likely to make unusual choices whilst relaxing on holiday, their sense of British practicality returns as soon as they get back on home soil."

In related news, a poll by JCDecaux Airport recently found that two-thirds of travellers buy things at the airport they may not have considered on the high street.
