Passengers win prizes in PhuketPeople on flights to Thailand have found themselves the lucky winners of presents and goodies this week.

As part of a special promotion to coincide with the beginning of the country's high season on November 1st, the Airports Authority of Thailand selected lucky people at random to be presented with the treats at Phuket International Airport.

The hub's deputy director Sucheeb Sansiripan told the Phuket Gazette: "[We] expect these activities to increase arrivals during the high season with the lucky passengers spreading the news around Phuket by word of mouth."

Earlier this month, a spokesperson for the Tourism Authority of Thailand told the Telegraph that 835,000 people from the UK visited Thailand last year, with this number expected to rise by another five per cent by the end of 2008.

The organisation added that people should not be put off visiting the country, since any disquiet experienced has been as a result of small-scale political disturbances.
