Britons intend to save money on 2009 holidaysWhile people will continue to take holidays in 2009, more than ever will aim to save money as the credit crunch bites, it has been found.

A poll of 1,250 people by Holiday '09 found that 90 per cent of respondents will check out good holiday deals online before making a booking, with over half seeking out independent advice from sources such as the internet.

One in three parents said they will take their children out of school if necessary in order to save money, since breaks are usually more expensive during school holidays. However, this can result in prosecution.

Ceriann Mullins, editor of Holiday '09, said the increase in people looking for cheaper holidays is unsurprising, given the current economic turmoil.

People looking for a far-flung destination that won't break the bank could consider booking cheap flights to Thailand and going on a conservation holiday, staying with other eco-conscious tourists to cut costs.Meet the editors...
