Holidays to Thailand and South Africa remain good valueResearch carried out by the Post Office has revealed that holidays to Thailand and South Africa remain the best value for people looking for long-haul destinations.

Its Holiday Money Report found that Thailand was the cheapest destination outside of the eurozone based on the costs of items such as cups of coffee and three-course meals, with a virtual basket costing £39.27.

This was closely followed by South Africa, where the same basket of items came to £43.18. This could be because the South African rand has decreased in value against the pound by eight per cent since 2008.

The most expensive destination was Spain, where the total holidaymakers would pay was £64.18.

Andrew Spice, spokesperson for the Post Office, said: "Holidaymakers will be checking prices carefully this year … the winning destinations will be those that offer good value not just for flights and accommodation, but for tourist staples."

People looking for flights to Cape Town or Johannesburg could consider booking services with Virgin Atlantic.Meet the editors...
