Phuket 'a perfect place for a honeymoon'

Newlyweds Tom and Claire Chambers have spoken about how much they enjoyed their recent holiday in Thailand, where they stayed in a remote corner of Phuket.

Newlyweds Tom and Claire Chambers have spoken about how much they enjoyed their recent holiday in Thailand, where they stayed in a remote corner of Phuket.

However, this was no ordinary holiday - it was actually their delayed honeymoon and the couple said that it was the perfect place to take it.

Their accommodation was a mountain spa retreat in 32 acres of tropical forest, they told the Daily Mail.

However, although it was the lap of luxury, they made sure they left it to take place in some sightseeing.

They spent time kayaking around Coral Island and snorkelling around the reefs, as well as visiting Koh Phi-Phi, setting of the movie The Beach.

"Vast cliffs framed each side and the beach was lapped by the most aqua-green water imaginable. We were desperate to see it and we're glad we did," Mrs Chambers said.

Holidays to Thailand are also good for people who want to participate in truly sustainable tourism, one travel writer recently pointed out.

Valere Tjolle, in an article for TravelMole, said there is more to the Asian country than spicy food and wonderful beaches and that visitors can participate in a number of eco-tourism projects.
