Have an elephant-astic time on holidays to Thailand!People going on holidays to Thailand - and in particular the Pattaya area - can now benefit from seeing more elephants as its people turn to conservation of the creatures instead of using them for logging.

This is according to the Vancouver Sun, which points out that with logging now banned, former workers must find new ways to supplement their income - and they have found that the elephants are excellent attractions if they are cared for properly.

Director of the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre, Richard Lair, said that people want to see the animals as they seek more adventurous holidays and experiences to show their friends at home.

A spokesperson for the Tourism Authority of Thailand recently told the Telegraph that 835,000 people from the UK visited Thailand in 2007.

Meanwhile, 5.8 million people visited Pattaya alone in 2006, according to figures from the Tourism Authority of Thailand, cited by Asia Web Direct.
