New research has revealed that a surprising number of British people are superstitious about travelling, particularly on Friday 13th.

Poll reveals how Britons alleviate travel stress

New research has revealed that a surprising number of British people are superstitious about travelling, particularly on Friday 13th.

To coincide with today marking another one of the feared events, TripAdvisor asked holidaymakers how they get over their travel anxiety, since 25 per cent admitted feeling more nervous than they would any other day.

Some 11 per cent said they avoid sitting in row 13 on the aircraft, while 15 per cent carry good luck charms such as photos or jewellery.

However, the prospect of travelling on Friday 13th is simply too much for eight per cent, who said they have changed their travel plans entirely after feeling uneasy.

Luke Fredberg, TripAdvisor spokesperson, remarked: "It seems that many centuries-old superstitions continue to impact on a significant number of travellers today."

Those travelling on flights to Thailand and other destinations with Virgin Atlantic may be luckier than most, since the carrier does not have a row 13.
