Thailand launches a national drinkGood news for anyone going on holidays to Thailand soon - the country has launched its own national cocktail.

The Thai tourist board hopes that the Siam Sunray will become as well recognised as Now York's Manhattans and Cuba's Mojitos, choosing ingredients that it calls "very Thai".

Its composites are vodka, coconut liqueur, a dash of chilli pepper and sugar, lime juice, a few slivers of lemongrass and ginger.

"Thailand in a glass: the new punch in Thai tourism," Thailand's tourism authority said at the cocktail's official launch.

It is hoped that the drink and its surrounding publicity will encourage people to go on holidays to Thailand even if it is not a country they have considered before.

Thailand could also be a good destination to visit while the values of the euro and the dollar have slumped against the pound, since travellers are likely to get more for their money.
