Elephant polo will entertain you in ThailandPeople going on holidays to Thailand soon may be interested to know that the annual King's Cup Elephant Polo Tournament is to be held in Anantara soon.

Taking place between March 23rd and 30th, the event aims to raise money for the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre in Lampang and sees two teams of three elephants battle it out over two rounds of ten minutes each.

The competition was relaunched in 1982 in homage to the traditional tournaments held by Mogul Indian Kings and teams from all over south-east Asia now take part.

Players have to hold a longer stick than they would on horses and the game is much slower, but spectators maintain that it is just as exciting.

The equipment is auctioned off at the end of the event to raise more money for the animals' conservation.

It was recently reported by the Vancouver Sun that people in Pattaya are working more to conserve elephants following the ban of logging.Meet the editors...
