Thai island of Koh Sumet will challenge Phuket and Koh SamuiPeople going on holidays to Thailand should consider the island of Koh Sumet instead of the more well-known Phuket and Koh Samui.

This is the advice of Telegraph travel reporter William Cashmore, who said that he recently went there with his wife and found it to be a beautiful place with friendly, helpful people.

He said that it offers convenience as well, since it is only a short ferry ride from Bangkok, plus it is quieter since many tourists are unaware of its existence.

Koh Sumet, which is also a national park, is ideal for couples looking for clean, quiet beaches, peaceful villas and gentle pursuits such as walking and snorkelling, Mr Cashmore said.

The island also escapes much of the monsoon from June to October, making it good for visiting all year round.

Earlier this month, Justine Ragany, writing for the Daily Mail, said that holidays to Thailand are great for people with babies, since the local people treat them like royalty.
