Long haul holidays are offering the best valueThose who have been considering holidays to Australia, South Africa, Thailand or Dubai may be in luck - all four destinations have been recommended by one newspaper as offering especially good value for money at the moment.

Sophie Butler of the Telegraph said that flights to Australia and Dubai offer significant savings at present, with the latter accessible for as little as £250 through Qatar Airways.

Meanwhile, South Africa was also recommended as a particularly good choice for holidaymakers, as was Thailand.

"As sterling is holding its own against the rand, holiday costs aren't too high once you get [to South Africa]," Ms Butler remarked.

Sean Tipton of travel association Abta recently said that people are more likely to try adventurous destinations where they may not have been before if it does not cost them as much to get there, meaning that Britons are increasingly heading further afield on their breaks.

This is especially true since the pound has been performing badly against the euro.
