Magazine recommends luggage device to travellersWith many more people now seemingly opting for multi-centre trips for their gap years and holidays, the chances of lost luggage are likely to go up as a result.

However, people going on such breaks may be interested in a product that has been recommended by Budget Travel magazine as a great way of making the retrieval of errant luggage much easier.

The Trace Me Tracker carries a unique barcode, which is registered to a national database and then attached to a passenger's luggage.

In the event that the bag goes missing, luggage handlers can scan the barcode, triggering a text message to the owner informing them where the bag is and who to contact to get it back.

Budget Travel said the device helped testers to find a number of deliberately lost bags quickly and easily.

John Crosland, one of the product's developers, said: "We provide a simple solution that prevents the distress and inconvenience of losing one's personal possessions."

This could be particularly pertinent news following the release of InsureandGo statistics, which showed that an average of 1,086 Britons lost luggage every day last year.
