Brits are waiting for last minute holidays

People in Britain are hedging their bets and waiting until the last minute to book their travel this year, perhaps including holidays to Thailand.

This is the opinion of Fiona Wilkinson, senior vice-president at Visa Europe. She cited figures published by the organisation earlier this month, which showed that the amount spent on holidays had remained static in January and February, even though the figure usually spikes in those months.

When asked why this did not occur, Ms Wilkinson said: "We think that worries over a weak pound could be discouraging many people. Also holidaymakers could be waiting until the last minute and hoping to find cheap deals."

In early April, a poll carried out by M&S Money showed that currency strength is an important factor when choosing holiday destinations for 36 per cent of respondents.

Consequently, holidays to South Africa, Thailand, or other long haul destinations with their own currency may work out to be good value for Britons.
