Look for protection when booking holidays

People booking trips abroad this summer, be they holidays to Dubai, Thailand or elsewhere, should always ensure that they book with a reputable company.

This is the advice of Frances Tuke of Abta, the Travel Association, who said that DIY holidays can be a risk and that not all products bought in this manner may be financially protected in case of the firm going bust.

"The regulations that are involved in financial protection are very complicated. As a traveller, you do need to be aware of what you're booking and ask," she stressed.

Ms Tuke added that it may be worth booking holidays using a credit card for extra peace of mind.
