UK travellers see the "value" in long-haul destinationsHolidaymakers from the UK are seeing the advantages of travelling to faraway destinations such as Thailand.

"Whilst long-haul destinations are not as popular as summer 2008, many holidaymakers can see the value in travelling further afield," explained Alistair Daly, marketing director at On the Beach.

Many Britons are cutting back on luxury purchases such as new cars and home improvements to be able to afford a holiday and many are heading further afield, he added.

According to Mr Daly, although initial costs, such as a flight to Thailand, may be higher than a destination closer to home, the extra costs "can be saved on the hotel and whilst in resort".

Figures from Post Office Travel Insurance released last week (July 18th) revealed that despite the recession, 60 per cent of UK travellers are taking an overseas trip this year.
