Grown-up gap years can look good on a CVYoung professionals who have been made redundant should consider taking a grown-up gap year, one industry spokesperson has suggested.

According to Tom Griffiths of gapyear.com, booking a flight to Thailand if unemployed could be a positive option.

He explained that travel looks better on a CV than sitting at home and it can develop life skills that appeal to potential employers.

Mr Griffiths went on to say that travelling on a holiday in Thailand could work out cheaper than staying at home.

"Technically you can live in Thailand for £5 a day. Thailand seems to be filling up with a number of these young professionals who find it's actually cheaper to be unemployed [there]," he said.

Some 78 per cent of people who have been made redundant during the recession plan to make the most of the time by travelling, according to research carried out by Travelex.

The average amount of time that a person would spend on holiday in Thailand or travelling after redundancy was found to be three months, with men opting for five to six months. Meet the editors...
