Disappointment in the British weather has lead to a "flurry" of last-minute travel booking.

People rushing to buy last-minute cheap flights

Recent weeks have seen a "flurry of activity" with people looking to book cheap flights for a last-minute holiday.

This is according to Ian Bradley, a spokesperson for the Association of Independent Travel Operators (Aito), who said that early good weather in the UK had encouraged people to stay at home.

However, as people realised that Met Office predictions may be wrong, they are "panicking" and thinking "get me out of here", he added.

A study carried out by Aito and Wanderlust found that destination choice is a more important factor among travellers than price this year.

More than 60 per cent of holidaymakers said they would still be heading overseas for a summer holiday and 72 per cent stated they would be spending at least as much money as in previous years.

Those taking a holiday in Thailand may find that their budgets stretch further than they would in Europe.
