If climate change is to be tackled, the age of cheap flights has to come to an end, according to one body.

Is the end of cheap air travel on the horizon?

Booking cheap flights to Thailand and other destinations may be under threat in the future, it has been suggested.

Those booking cheap flights to Australia and other sunny locations may not be able to do so in the future.

This is the opinion of David Kennedy, chief executive of the Committee on Climate Change, who believes that the next generation of travellers will not have access to cheap air travel if the world is to make realistic efforts to tackle climate change.

"You may want to go on holiday more that you do now. But you may not be able to do that in a carbon-constrained world," the Telegraph quotes him as stating in a letter to the secretaries of state for climate change and transport.

Mr Kennedy also calls for global aviation emissions to be capped to 2005 levels by 2050.

In other news, plans are afoot to expand Heathrow Airport, something that several environmental groups, local residents and London Mayor Boris Johnson have staunchly opposed from the outset.
