Thailand "will offer exceptional value this winter"

People looking for bargain breaks this winter are being advised to consider holidays to Thailand by one travel journalist.

Writing in the Daily Telegraph, Nick Trend commented: "Virtually all tour operators agree that Thailand will offer exceptional value this winter."

He attributes the rise of country as a bargain destination to competitively-priced flights, coupled with the low cost of living and the availability of cheap hotel rooms.

Mr Trend added that Thailand combines "a wonderful coastline with a consistently high standard of accommodation and service."

Other destinations tipped by the journalist to offer holidaymakers good deals this winter include Dubai - where the plethora of hotel rooms has resulted in very competitive pricing - and Egypt, which Mr Trend claims offers the best value to travellers.

A poll conducted by Monarch Holidays earlier this month revealed that 70 per cent of visitors to its website are intending to take a winter-sun holiday in 2009, with just 11 per cent of respondents claiming to be heading off on a ski trip.
