Thailand is a sophisticated gap year destinationTravellers who are planning gap years may want to book flights to Thailand as one travel expert described the country as a sophisticated destination.

Chris Lee, marketing advisor for the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), commented that Thailand has a lot to offer those on gap years, as well as people holidaying there.

"Gap years are not just about doing a lazy trek, people want to get involved with cultural tourism, do home stays and get a much more down to earth product," he said.

Mr Lee added that Thailand has become a mainstream long-haul destination among UK tourists, with more than 750,000 British people visiting the Asian country each year.

Last month, TAT announced that its marketing campaign - Amazing Thailand, Amazing Value - generated 3,432 passengers between October and December this year.

The figure represents an increase of 46 per cent in the number of bookings generated by participating tour operators in the same period of 2008.
