Thailand is one destination that is guaranteed to appear in gap year itineraries, it has been stated.

Thailand guaranteed to appear in holiday itineraries

People thinking of taking a gap year will more than likely be researching flights to Thailand as part of their trip, one tourism expert has claimed.

Joanna Cooke, UK and Ireland marketing manager for the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said that the country is "guaranteed" to appear in most itineraries that are put together by travellers.

She added that many tourists also end up extending their stay because they realise how much Thailand has to offer once they arrive.

"They realise there are a lot more places to visit, lots of different beaches on the islands [and] islands where you can have lots of different experiences," Ms Cooke explained.

She also pointed out that there are hundreds of festivals that take place around the country each year, which is something that people booking flights to Thailand may want to investigate.

Unofficial figures released by the Tourism Authority of Thailand relating to arrivals in the country estimate that more than 700,000 Brits travelled to the nation during 2009.
