Flights to Bangkok proving popular with Brits

The latest research from one travel website has found that flights to Bangkok are still popular with British tourists.

Trips to the Thai capital came in at 11th place in Skyscanner's monthly list of the most-searched-for destinations.

Bangkok is the second most sought-after long to medium haul location in the top 20, after New York, which featured at number seven.

Other sun-soaked destinations were included in the top 30, with flights to Dubai and Sharm el Sheikh also appearing among Brits' holiday wish list.

Barry Smith, Skyscanner co-founder and business director, commented that holidays to Thailand are beginning to rival traditional destinations such as Spain and Portugal.

He also pointed out that South Africa is expected to experience a "spike" due to the World Cup, which is being held in the country in June and July this year.

Research released earlier this month by the Tourism Authority of Thailand seems to support the assertion that the country is on the radar among British tourists.

The organisation revealed that more than 630,000 people travelled to the nation between January and November 2009.
