Thailand 'a top choice for newlyweds'

People who are looking for the perfect place to spend their honeymoon are increasingly booking flights to Thailand, it has been revealed.

Thailand is among the top five places in the world for newlyweds seeking some time together following their wedding.

According to research by Kuoni, couples are increasingly booking flights to Thailand ahead of their weddings, with only the Maldives a more popular destination for a honeymoon.

Frances Tuke, spokesperson for ABTA - The Travel Association, explained that holidaymakers are being attracted by the culture and variety on offer in the country.

"You have got all the lovely culture and history and you can go and do elephant rides up in the north and there are beautiful temples that are really unique," she noted.

It appears that Thailand is not only at the top of the list for honeymoons because it is also among the top five foreign destinations to get married in.

Sri Lanka took the number one spot in this category, with the likes of St Lucia and the USA also proving popular among those looking to tie the knot.
