Explore the "magical" Koh Panak on a Thailand holidayAn inflatable kayak tour of the island of Koh Panak was a memorable and "magic" experience for a New Zealand travel writer.

Martin Sykes of the New Zealand Herald said that the inflatable kayaks helped the tour group navigate the "amazing" caves of the island before emerging in its hidden centre.

The island's central lagoon - accessed through the caves - is surrounded by 30-metre-high limestone cliffs.

He wrote: "The water is calm, mangroves sprout up haphazardly and there is virtually no sound other than the gentle splash of paddles breaking the water's surface."

Mr Sykes added that his journey to and from the island involved travelling 20 kilometres by speedboat from the Phuket Boat Lagoon.

The lagoon was the first marina to be constructed in the city and a number of restaurants and shops are located nearby.
