Thai visitors warned on feeding elephantsHolidaymakers heading off on cheap flights to Thailand should keep in mind new rules put in place over the feeding of the country's domestic elephants.

Authorities in Bangkok have put in place new guidelines which could see people fined if they feed the elephants that can be found in the capital. Many people like to give the animals food such as bananas or sugar cane, but visitors stepping off cheap flights to Thailand may want to avoid this.

Deputy director of the City Law Enforcement Department in Bangkok Manit Techa-apichoke said: "The ordinance is issued to prevent untidiness or danger toward properties and lives of Bangkok residents."

Many of the elephants seen in Bangkok are used as money spinners by their handlers and Thailand as a whole has about 2,400 domestic beasts.

Thailand is a popular holiday spot, with visitors drawn in by great weather, luxurious white sand beaches and bustling cities. While here, make sure you pay a visit to some of its beautiful islands, including Koh Samui.
