New flights to Thailand from Assam

The creation of an international airport in India is set to increase the number of flights to Thailand.

Expansion of Guwahati airport means that Druk Air is set to introduce twice-weekly flights to Thailand from Assam. Starting from next week, the airline will fly from Paro in Bhutan and between Bangkok and Guwahati.

"The services will surely help in connectivity and take our age old ties to newer heights," explained Druk Air chairman Kesang Wangdi, reports IANS.

Flights to Bangkok from Guwahati will be on Wednesdays and Sundays, while the return services will be scheduled for Mondays and Thursdays. A one-way trip will take around three hours and an economy class ticket will be around Rs 8,500 (£120).

Drunk Air was founded in 1981 and is the national carrier of the royal government of Bhutan. The airline's main base is in Paro, Bhutan; it has a fleet of two Airbus A319s.
