W Hotels Worldwide has opened its first Southeast Asian hotel in Koh Samui.

W Hotels Worldwide has opened its first Southeast Asian hotel in Koh Samui.

The W Koh Samui is a located on the beach on the north side of the island and is the company's third resort outside of the UK.

Eva Ziegler, global brand leader at W Hotels Worldwide, said: "We are delighted to have brought the W brand to Koh Samui, one of the coolest islands in Southeast Asia.

"W Koh Samui marks an important move in the global expansion of the W brand."

The resort, which could appeal to those taking flights to Thailand, offers guests a total of 72 private villas. Each property has a private swimming pool, outdoor shower, high-tech sound system and a 46 inch plasma television.

The first W hotel was opened in New York in December 1998 and the company now oversees 37 hotels and retreats. In addition, W Hotels is also planning a significant expansion of its portfolio and has already announced the planned opening of new hotels in London, Bangkok, Shanghai and Paris.
